MLO 3
MLO 3 Literary and Cultural Knowledge Students develop a reasonable understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions), and the cultural products – both tangible and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) — of Hispanic societies.
List of Courses: Span 202, Span 304, SBS 485S, Span 316, Span 315, HCOM 329
These courses have helped me learn more about the cultures of Spanish speaking countries. Spanish 202 used videos to supplement the vocabulary taught in class and we were required to create a presentation on living in a Spanish speaking country. Spanish 304 focused on literature created by Hispanic authors. Human Communication 329 taught me about the testimonios which allowed me to learn more about values, behavioral practices, and philosophies. Spanish 316 focused on the history of the Iberian Peninsula and how it developed into the country it is today. Spanish 315 is a class on translation and I've realized that a lot of mistakes made in translation are caused by a lack of understanding of the target culture. Social and Behavioral Sciences 485S was the course I took in Spain. Because I was living there, I got a first hand look at the modern day society of Spain and I was able to visit museums and see the impact the past has on the present. After I get my degree, I want to go back to Spain in order to improve my understanding of the values, philosophies, and culture of Spain.
