A bilingual English/Spanish course on autobiography, testimonio, life histories, and telenovelas (soaps). Students read and analyze written texts and films, keep journals, and do life writing or multimedia production in either Spanish or English. Requires the ability to understand spoken Spanish. Course narrative: This class was very interesting as we had the opportunity to read and analyze old folk tales and testimonios. I found this class fascinating because the testimonios were from people living in California during the time when it became a part of the United States. It was a really cool experience to connect the history of the place I lived in to the material I read in class. One of my favorite stories we read in that class was the story of The Bullet Swallower recorded by Jovita González de Mireles. You can read my analysis of it by clicking here. This class was my first experience immersing myself in chicanx literature and I thought it was really interesting.
